How to Stand Out from the Crowd

The recruitment process for many hopeful candidates is not an easy one to say the least.  The process is not only time consuming but poses many obstacles along the way.  Should your CV be one page or two? How much detail is required? Skills and strengths?  Tailor the CV to a specific role? Showcase achievements?  Provide references?  The list is endless…  However experts say there are some golden rules for getting a CV correct, not least accuracy, spelling and grammar. 

My pet hate is reviewing a fabulous CV with little or no contact information! Whilst we recruiters believe we are brilliant at our jobs, unfortunately telepathy is not a pre request to be a Recruitment Executive!  Always ensure your CV includes key information - personal details, including name, address, phone number, and email address.

Employers received on average 60 applications for every advertisement for a low-skilled job and 20 for every skilled role. Significantly, almost half of these candidates are perfectly suitable for the role, so how can you stand out from the crowd?

Each role will vary but for specific career sectors and in particular Senior Appointments it is clear that training, qualifications and career development are essential to make the short list.   For others, qualifications accredited by a professional body carry a stamp of approval and can have a positive benefit and enhance employability.
