We have an exciting opportunity for a Packaging Technologist initially on a 6 - 9 month contract basis to work as part of both an exciting Research and Development function and a Cross-Functional Packaging End to End Team, where you will lead a pipeline of Packaging initiatives from idea to execution. This will include ideation, concept development, prototyping, factory trails, and monitoring products in-market.

You will also support other innovation or cost-out projects by providing Packaging input such as validation of trails and final specifications.

You will also support the R&D function by coordinating, collating, and maintaining system specifications.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Leads or supports multiple packaging projects and programs to deliver packaging solutions for cost optimisation whilst ensuring that the packaging is compliant with all relevant safety requirements and quality standards
  • Is responsible for the execution of all required packaging development work and factory support
  • Analyses data and applies statistical methodologies to establish recommendations and specifications
  • Organises, managers, and leads plant trails and testing to validate recommendations
  • Ensures that the defined testing, OEE & approval procedures are in place and followed
  • Reports findings, communicate risks, and develops solutions
  • Update project teams, escalate challenges and ensures timelines are accurate
  • Maintains and develops customer and supplier relationships
  • Supports in the commissioning and testing of new packaging equipment
  • Follows all processes for packaging and product design
  • Supports other projects, such as innovation projects where necessary
  • Applies knowledge of packaging systems, machinery, innovation, and corresponding systems in routine and complex projects
  • Research and reports on future changes in packaging technologies to help develop the department’s strategy, resources, and procedures
  • Delivers all projects on time and to budget and manage the smooth handover of projects from one area to another

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent in Packaging Technology or otherwise demonstrable equivalent technical knowledge
  • Previous experience in Packaging Development or related role
  • An understanding of packing line equipment, machinery commissioning, line performance, and packaging performance standards
  • Knowledge of packing components and materials used to produce packaging structures in routine and complex projects. This includes knowledge of the manufacturing processes used and how they impact barrier and other physical properties
  • Experience in organising, reporting, and leading packaging trails to validate potential solutions
  • Ability to review data and apply statistical methodology to reach conclusions and make recommendations
  • Able to demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
