We are looking for an experienced and responsible Health and Safety Coordinator to assist the Health and Safety Manager in ensuring our client's obligations towards health and safety are met.

You will support the health and Safety Manager in the implementation of new and existing legislation and internal procedures. As the Health and Safety Coordinator you will have excellent communication skills both verbal and written, this is key to this exciting opportunity.

In your role as Health and Safety Coordinator, you will also help to support managers to achieve safe working conditions, legal compliance and the development of an effective health and safety culture.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Health and Safety Manager in developing, implementing, and maintaining the Group health and safety policies, procedures, and safe systems of work to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation and guidance
  • Assist the Health and Safety Manager with accident and near-miss investigations as required to ensure the root cause is established and any necessary preventative actions are in place to prevent a recurrence of the incident
  • Assist the Health and Safety Manager in monitoring and driving implementation of corrective and preventative actions arising from health and safety activities including accident investigations, risk assessments and safety audits to ensure the recommended control measures are in place
  • Assist in monitoring health and safety performance across the organisation to support continuous improvement
  • To assist in the preparation of any necessary health and safety reports to ensure stakeholders have the relevant information on time
  • Supporting managers in bringing contractors on site by reviewing and providing advice on contractor’s documentation before work commences to ensure work is carried out in a safe manner
  • Delivering basic health and safety and fire training when required
  • Maintain and update records of safety audits, plans, and reports
  • Maintain and update accident and near-miss database
  • Assist in the organisation of the company’s annual health screening programme
  • Collate and file safety documentation relating to each of the sites
  • Run regular reports to pick up and identify any outstanding actions
  • Check if all the employees are acting in adherence to rules and regulations
  • Attend Health & Safety Committee Meetings as and when required
  • Take responsibility for your own personal and professional development, including CPD where appropriate
  • Facilitate first aid, fire, and mental health first aid training and knowledge sharing across all sites
  • Offer a flexible approach to working hours to meet the needs of the organisation
  • The employee may on occasions be called upon to undertake work in other locations within the group to ensure legal health and safety obligations are fulfilled
  • Comply with Health & Safety requirements and be aware of and adhere to current policies and procedures
  • Any other duty as required by the Health & Safety Manager commensurate with the post

Essential Skills and Expertise:

  • The ability to investigate accidents and near misses to determine root causes and provide suitable reports and recommendations
  • The ability to create reports to communicate a range of information
  • Be able to review and critique various types of health and safety documentation and provide effective feedback
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • To know about health and safety management systems, particularly those based on HSG 65 Successful Health and safety management
  • To have Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  • To be a critical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Microsoft: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

General & Specialist Knowledge

  • Understanding working in busy manufacturing FPCG/food manufacturing and large warehousing settings would be a distinct advantage

Education & Training

  • Will have achieved a level 3 Health and Safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Be a member of IOSH at least Grad IOSH
  • Have a minimum of 3-5 years experience in a similar role
  • Current First Aid certificate
  • Full driving license or access to transport
